Notes

This is the debut album for R&B star Aaliyah. It was entirely written and produced by R. Kelly with the exception of an Isley Brothers song titled “At your best.”  This album includes a couple of her biggest hits such as “Back & Forth” and the title track “Age ain’t nothing but a number.”  Speaking of age, at the time of its release Aaliyah was 15 years old, and she secretly lied about her age on a marriage license to R. Kelley who was 12 years older than her.  Both of them denied this, and then a few months later it was reported that they were indeed married and that the marriage was annulled.  So ironically I guess age is just nothing but a number in this case.  The album peaked at number 18 on the Billboard charts.

Recommendations

It’s not her best album, but it’s a decent 90’s R&B album.  If you’re into 90’s pop and R&B this is totally your scene, if not, you wouldn’t enjoy this album one bit.

If you plan on purchasing Age ain't nothing but a number

In addition to the original 1994 release there have been a few highly expensive remastered imports released.  If you’re a hardcore fan you may want to go this route, if not, you will want to original 1994 release. To be honest, it sounds great and is the cheapest route to go.  I hardly ever see this in stores so you may be best off to purchase it online at Cdnow.com.

If you don't plan on purchasing Age ain't nothing but a number want to hear some tracks from it

There are only a few stand out tracks here, and that is the title track, "Back & Forth" and the Isley brothers cover "At your best".  Other than that the album is a bit weaker.  If interested in these tracks you can get them either on a greatest hits CD or purchase them individually at Itunes or Napster. At this time this is the only Aaliyah album available on Itunes.  For more Aaliyah suggestions, you can view my ideal compilation at my Aaliyah Home page.
