Notes
Highway To Hell is one of AC/DC's most famous albums. Not only was it the last one recorded by the band in the 70's, it was the last one recorded with lead vocalist Bon Scott. Bon Scott died at a young age and less than a year after Highway To Hell was released. Later on there would be two more U.S. released Bon Scott albums (released in Australia before his death). This album also kicks off a set of albums produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange. If you are familiar with early AC/DC records, you can definitely tell a difference in the production on this album compared to the previous four. The sound is more "studio" like compared to the Vanda & Young productions which sounded as if the band was playing in a garage without any over dubs. Probably the band's most famous track, Highway To Hell can be found here, plus many more classic cuts. This album charted at number 17 on the Billboard pop charts and Rolling Stone named it number 199 of the top 500 albums of all time.
Recommendations
This is a must have for any music library, period!
If you plan on purchasing Highway To Hell
You must pick up the 2003 remastered version. All AC/DC albums have been remastered with new packaging, fabulous liner notes, and CD ROM extra footage features. AC/DC may have the greatest CD package on the market today. The liner notes tell a continuing story on the band. Each disc continues the story where the previous disc left off. You can find this in just about every local record store. It is usually sold at a reasonable price, and with the use of Cdnow.com, you should never pay more than $11.99 for it.
If you don't plan on purchasing Highway To Hell but want to hear some tracks from it
For some awful reason you chose to pass up on owning Highway To Hell, you must check out a few tracks. I recommend the entire album. So just buy the album, don't worry about individual tracks. This would be a greatest hits album for the majority of bands. For more suggestions check out my ideal compilation for the band on my AC/DC home page.
