Notes
This is the debut album for Ambrosia. According to the liner notes for the album, producer Freddie Prio stated that the band moved into a house together for months and wrote, performed and arranged the tracks on this album. Overall, I would say it's a good record. It includes one of their biggest hits, "Holdin' on to yesterday." But its the deep tracks and the experimental work that keeps this album cookin' for me. It may not be loaded with hits, but it sure is one of their best albums.
Recommendations
If you like progressive rock or classic rock then you should make this purchase. You may think that Ambrosia is a band of soft ballads, but there was time when they could really jam.
If you plan on purchasing Ambrosia
The Ambrosia catalog was remastered in 2000, and these versions are the only way to go. The remastering sounds great, and include new liner notes. Typicaly you can only find their greatest hits packages in your local store, so you may want to purchase it at Cdnow.com.
If you don't plan on purchasing Ambrosia but want to hear some tracks from it
You can get some of the better tracks on this album from a couple of their greatest hits albums, so that may be the route to go. But if you're wanting a taste of more Ambrosia, you should also preview some deeper tracks like "Mama Frog" & "Drink of water". You can purchase any of these tracks at Itunes or Napster.
