America

America is a folk/pop rock band from the 1970's.  The primary members met and grew up on an American military base with American fathers and British mothers.  Gerry Beckley, Dewey Bunnell, and Dan Peek formed their band in their early twenties with a sound very similar to Crosby, Stills & Nash.  Their debut which was recorded in London was not very successful until they recorded a track which at the time was titled "Dessert song".  This song ended up being a number one hit, and was changed to "A horse with no name", the album was then re-released with this track and album achieved great success.  The trio would continue to record several more albums, the majority of them starting with the letter H, and produced by Beatles producer, Sir George Martin.  In 1979 after many feuds, Peek went out on his own and America released their first album as a duo.  The band would go on into the 1980's but would never reach the success that the 1970's brought them.  Peek has never re-joined the group and the duo still continues to tour on occasion.
