Ashanti

Ashanti Douglas is an American R&B singer from New York. Her mother had a deep love for music and her father was singer. As a young child she loved to dance and sing and would perform in several talent shows throughout New York. Ashanti was originally discovered by Puff Daddy from Bad Boy Records. Both Puff and Biggie Smalls liked here, but she or her agent did not like the contract and the did not sign. She was finally noticed by Irv Gotti, who was the director of the hip-hop label Murder Inc. He had Ashanti sing background on some of his top artists tracks including Fat Joe's hit "What's Luv" and Ja Rule's, "Always on time". This won her some popularity and finally Gotti was willing to let her record her own album. Her debut was a hit with the leading singles "Foolish" and "Happy" getting lots of airplay. She has released a few albums since then including a Christmas album and a compilation album, but none of these have reached the success of her debut. In addition to singing she acted in several movies and her own body fragrance. Ashanti has finished recording her fourth studio album and is set to hit stores in the Summer of 2008.
