Notes
This is the debut album for Def Leppard. Though this is their debut, this was not my first experience with the band. I was more familiar with their third and fourth albums, which I enjoy a lot. I figured that On Through The Night would be similar to those albums, but boy was I wrong. At first I had thought that I put in an early Metallica CD. Little did I know that Def Leppard was a hard driving, fast pace heavy metal band. It's a cool album with lots of exploding guitar solos, but not the Def Leppard I am use to. The album wouldn't peak on the Billboard charts in the U.S. until 1983 at number 131. I always think of the movie Spaceballs when I see this album cover.
Recommendations
This is not your ideal sounding Def Leppard album, so it may be more than what you're expecting. If you're into fast pace, killer guitar solos, then this is a must have, if not you may want to pass this up. It would be interesting to play a couple tracks from this album followed by matterial from their 1996 album Slang, you wouldn't even be able to tell their the same band..
If you plan on purchasing On through the night
There are several foreign imports of this album. I've never really gotten into these, especially if there are not any additional tracks. These import versions range from 35-50 dollars, so with that in mind your better off with the 1990 release. It sounds great and has everything you would want. Its quite difficult to find in stores, so your best bet may be at Cdnow.com.
If you don't plan on purchasing On through the night but want to hear some tracks from it
A lot of these tracks sound alike, but some of them do stand out to me. The track "Hello America" was a hit and "Rock brigade" is a popular track for fans. This album however is unavailable to be purchased for individual tracks, so you may need to buy the album if you're interested in any of these tracks.
