Notes
This is the debut album for E.L.O. The three main members, Roy Wood, Jeff Lynne, and Bev Bevan were members of The Move, and formed E.L.O. Wood wanted to create rock music with a touch of classical, and this is what you get. The opening track, 10538 Overture, was meant to be a song for The Move, but after it was recorded Wood added about 15 overdubs worth of strings, thus creating the first ever E.L.O. song. This is an experimental album, and while the concept of future E.L.O. albums is there, it is much different. After this album was released, founding E.L.O. member and the primary member on this album, Roy Wood, left the band.
Recommendations
If you're into other E.L.O. albums that doesn't mean that you will enjoy this. It is much different from their later albums. I personally find a few of the songs quite good, but if you're only into their radio friendly songs then you may just want to purchase a greatest hits album, or download some tracks from this one.
If you plan on purchasing No answer
There are a few releases of this album. The original CD release, an imported 30 year anniversary disc, and the 2006 remastered version. I recommend the 2006 remastered version. It is a nice package with excellent liner notes. The entire E.L.O. catalog has been remastered and is a great set of discs to own. The 2006 release contains four bonus tracks as well, these are four alternate versions of tracks off the album. Good luck finding this one in stores, however with the use of Cdnow.com you will be able to make this purchase at a very reasonable price.
If you don't plan on purchasing No answer but want to hear some tracks from it
As I said earlier, this album is not really loaded, and it is much different from other E.L.O. albums. You will certainly want to own the opening track 10538 Overture. I have listed my top 5 tracks on this album, which you may want to listen to some clips of at Itunes or Napster, you may find out that this album is for you after all. For more suggestions, you can view my ideal compilation for the band at my E.L.O. Home Page.
