Electric Light Orchestra

Electric Light Orchestra, also know as E.L.O., was a well known band in the 1970's and 80's from Birmingham England. You can say that Jeff Lynne was the leader of the group, and that is correct, but he wasn't the one created the band. Roy Wood, a member of another band called The Move, thought it would be a wonderful idea to create a rock band that had an orchestra backing it up to give it a classical feel. He was buddies with Jeff Lynne who ended up joining the band and recorded a couple albums with The Move. One night after recording a song for The Move, Wood and Lynne stayed after and added about 15 overdubs of strings. They both thought that it sounded brilliant. The song was 10538 Overture, and that ended up being the first ever E.L.O. song, and the creation of the band. Drummer of The Move, Bev Beven joined E.L.O. and they recorded their debut album, No Answer. After it's release Wood and Lynne had different visions of the band and left E.L.O. to form another band called Wizzard. Beven stuck with Lynne, the new leader of E.L.O., recruited some more musicians and recorded their second album. The band became successful and were one of the biggest touring groups in the seventies recording quite a few top 40 hits. They would go through some different formations, with Lynne leading the way every time. Lynne would produce every E.L.O. album, and also helped produce the soundtrack Xanadu. In the late 80's after a huge downfall, Lynne called it quits and joined up with the supergroup, The Traveling Wilburys. In 2001 Lynne gave it another shot by recording a new E.L.O. album that didn't do so hot. Since then all E.L.O. albums have been reissued and remastered.
