Notes

This is the mainstream debut album for Eminem.  It contains his first big hit “My name is” and his first collaboration with Dr. Dre, “Guilty conscience”.  The lyrical content on this album is extremely violent and raunchy.  I won’t get into details since that may offend some people, but beware before you make a purchase.  The album cover is an image containing to lyrics from “’97 Bonnie & Clyde”.  The Slim Shady LP peaked at number 2 on the Billboard charts.

Recommendations

Even though the album is extremely violent, I enjoy it, and so do a lot of hip-hop fans.  You just need to look pass some of the meaning of the lyrics and just know that their not truthful, and that it’s just story telling.  However this obviously not for all listeners, if you’re not into hip-hop or are easily offended, you would want to skip this.

If you plan on purchasing The Slim Shady LP

There are several imports that I find unnecessary.  The only version you need, which is at a reasonable price is the original 1999 release.  There is a “clean” version as well, but unlike other edited hip-hop CD’s; this clean version is still a bit dirty.  You may be able to find this at your local record store, but your best bet would be to purchase it at Cdnow.com.

If you don't plan on purchasing The Slim Shady LP but want to hear some tracks from it

You have probably heard the single “My name is”, but the rest of the album didn’t get much airtime. If you’re interested in individual tracks you may want to either purchase Eminem’s greatest hits album, or preview/purchase my top 5 at either Itunes or Napster.  For more suggestions you can view my idea compilation at my Eminem Home Page.
