Notes
After the success of his debut, The Massacre was a highly anticipated album. The album sold over 1 million copies in its first four days of being released. To me, that is just incredible. The album does seem weaker in comparison to his debut. The hits are much better on the debut, but some of lesser known tracks on The Massacre are better. Overall it’s not a bad album. A lot of his trademarks found on his debut are found here as well, such as, strong language, gun shots, Eminem and G-unit, and disses to other New York rappers. It album reached number one on the Billboard charts.
Recommendations
The album may start off a bit slow; however it does pick up, and is one of the better hip-hop albums released that year. It you purchased his debut, you have got to get this one. If you didn’t have any interest in his debut, then I don’t think you will ever have any interest in 50 Cent.
If you plan on purchasing The Massacre
With its initial release there was the explicit and clean version. Then about several months later, after a feud with fellow rapper The Game, a special edition version of the album was released with the track featuring The Game removed, and replaced by a track with Mobb Deep. I think its silly to have a special edition for an album not even a year after it was released. It’s up to you which route you want to go. I have the original release. The only addition to the special edition is that you get a DVD with videos for all the songs, but the videos are poor quality and are almost pointless. You will without a doubt be able to find this at a record store in town, but you can always check out Cdnow.com for any of the versions I mentioned.
If you don't plan on purchasing The Massacre but want to hear some tracks from it
To be honest, I thought the two big hits from this album were kind of corny, but when you think about it, that is what sells. “Candy shop” and “Disco Inferno” are probably the two songs you’ve heard. But to me, deeper tracks like “Ryder Music” and “Ski Mask Way” are stand out tracks. I would recommend purchasing my top 5, and if you like those you may want to preview some more at Itunes or Napster. For more suggestions you can check out my ideal compilation at my 50 Cent Home Page.
