Elton John

Elton John, whose real name is Reginald Dwight, is an English singer/songwriter/pianist, and one of the most popular of his kind. He grew up to a music family with his father being a musician and both parents having a passion for it. He was naturally gifted with the piano, being able to play quite well at the age of three. After playing local gigs by himself in a local pub, he formed his own group. They called themselves Bluesology. He then answered to an add in a paper for a man named Ray Williams, who was a manager for Liberty records. There was also another add placed in which John's future songwriting partner Bernie Taupin replied to. John would write music to Taupin's lyrics and they would send them back and forth to each other. It was around this time that he started to go by Elton John, which is the first and last name of two members of Bluesology. They wrote many songs in a short period of time for other recording artists before they worked on their own material. John recruited most of his Bluesology band mates and with Taupin's lyrics, they recorded his debut album. It was not successful at all, but they kept their heads up and continued to write. Their first big hit was "Your song" which is still one their most popular tracks. "Your song" created a string of top singles and top selling albums. He also became a huge touring act. The crowd just loved his energy and his wacky costumes on stage. In 1976 things began to go downhill as he stated he was going to retire, which led Taupin working with other artists. He reunited with Taupin later on and recorded more top 40 material but he would never reach the success he once had between 1970-1976. In the early 90's he checked into rehab for drug and alcohol abuse, and for the eating disorder, bulimia. In the mid 70's John stated that he was bisexual and did get married and divorced, and is now in a partnership with a man named David Farnish. John was knighted by his country in 1998 and is now Sir Elton John.
