Journey

Journey is an American band originally formed out of San Francisco, which has gone through several different line-ups with their most famous from the late seventies to mid eighties.  The band began when fellow Santana members Neal Schon and Gregg Rolie formed their own band.  They recorded a couple of albums that did not chart well, but in my opinion are two of their better albums released.  The band went through a change of style on their next album having more participation with vocals.  That still didn’t help with their record sales and had to recruit a new singer.  This is when their new front man and lead singer Steve Perry joined the band, and also another change to their style.  They became more of a pop band than an actual rock band.  They went on a string of top selling albums and hits.  Eventually Steve Perry and Neal Schon did solo projects, which would lead the band down the wrong path.  Members of the band split and they had to hire studio musicians to finish up an album, one of the being American Idol judge Randy Jackson, who also toured with the band.  Schon and Jonathan Cain, the keyboardist who Gregg Rolie requested to replace him, formed the band Bad English which led to their break up. In 1996, close to ten years after the break up, Journey recorded and released a new album with Steve Perry back on vocals. Perry ended up hurting himself and could not tour, which ultimately lead to his departure of the band. Since then the band has gotten really sour and have gone through two lead singers, their most recent being a Filipino who Neal Schon discovered singing Journey songs on Youtube.  The band released a new album in 2008 with their new singer and original bass player Ross Valory.  Neal Schon is the only member of Journey who has been there for each line-up.
