'N Sync

'N Sync was a teen pop boy band from Orlando, Florida.  Their future rival the Backstreet Boys were already formed by manager Lou Pearlman before 'N Sync was formed.  It started with Chris Kirkpatrick, who auditioned for the Backstreet Boys, but was a runner up.  Kirkpatrick would then seek out a friend, Joey Fatone to help him create a new group.  After Joey agreed the two of them visited with Lou Pearlman again who let them watch through some tapes of singers.  What they saw was Justin Timberlake from the Mickey Mouse Club.  Soon after, Justin would join, along with his friend JC Chasez.  The original 5th member was Jason Galasso, but he left the group before they signed to any deals.  The boys named themselves 'N Sync from Timberlake's mother stating they sound in sync, and the fact that their last initial from their names spells out 'N Sync (JasoN, ChriS, JoeY, JustiN, JC). They were getting closer to signing a deal, but they still needed a 5th signer.  Timberlake's vocal coach suggested someone from Mississippi named Lance Bass.  He was accepted by the group immediately, and was called "Lansten" so their group name would still work.  The group wasn't hot in America to start.  It was about a year after they were successful in Europe before they released their first single in the U.S.  Their debut album didn't do so hot at first but after making some public performances and Disney showing a live concert, their debut album soared the pop charts.  After some legal issues with their manager and releasing a Christmas album, 'N Sync really hit the big time.  They released a new single titled "Bye bye bye" which was an instant success, along with their new album, No String Attached.  The album set all kinds of records selling 2.4 million copies in the first week, and an estimated 1.1 million on its first day.  The would release several more singles with the album and embarked a huge No Strings Attached tour.  Their next album, Celebrity was a success, but nothing like their previous record.  Afterwards the group would slowly break-up.  They would still make some public appearances and go to award shows, but their last performance as a group was in 2004.  Timberlake and Chasez started solo careers, with Timberlake's being more successful.  Kirkpatrick had a clothing line that he had to close, and Fatone has acted in some films and was runner-up on a TV show called Dancing with the stars.  Lastly, Lance came out of the closet in 2006 stating that he is gay, and has also acted in several movies.  All members are still friends, but there is no talk of a reunion as of now.
