Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

Tom Petty, born in Gainesville, Florida was the leader of the successful rock band Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.  One of Petty's first bands, Mudcrutch consisted of a few future Heartbreakers before they changed the name.  They released their debut album in 1976, it consisted of a couple big singles but still didn't sell well.  With each new album they would release the band's fan base would grow as well as record sales.  After the band had released several records, a bunch of tours and even preforming in the 1985 Live Aid Festival, Tom Petty decided to join up with Bob Dylan and others to create the supergroup The Traveling Wilburys.   After his time with the Wilburys he went back on his own without the Heartbreakers and recorded a couple more albums.  The Heartbreakers would tour with him however.  He has since then recorded studio albums with and without The Heartbreakers but always has his band with him on tour.  Petty is also a music critic and hosts his own show on XM Radio.  As of 2008 The Heartbreakers are going back on tour with their first performance being the halftime show for Super Bowl 42. (In which the Giants defeated the Patriots.)
