Stephen Stills

Stephen Stills is an American singer/songwriter who grew up in a military family. He is best known for being in the trio/foursome Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young. He was influenced by the blues and folk music at an early age. He played in a few early bands such as The Continentals, and Au Go Go Singers. Stills even auditioned for the Monkees, but it is stated that he did not make the group because he looked much older than he really was. He began to reach fame with fellow CSNY member Neil Young when they formed the band Buffalo Springfield. Buffalo Springfield would release three albums, and were most notably known for a Stills composition, "For what it's worth". After the break up of Buffalo Springfield Stills joined forces with ex Byrds member David Crosby and ex Hollies member Graham Nash. The trio, sometimes joined by Neil Young recorded a few hit records and would off and on get together. After CSNY's second album, Stills recorded his debut solo album, which also included Crosby, Nash, and other great performers such as Eric Clapton, and one of Stills' best friends, Jimi Hendrix. Stills would continue to record solo albums along with get togethers with Crosby and Nash. He also formed another group named Manassas which recorded two albums in the 1970's. It was revealed by Graham Nash in late 2007 that Stills has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
