Notes

This is the debut and quite possibly the finest album released by Steely Dan.  It is one of the classic start to finish albums with a good mix of pop & rock.  It was led by the singles "Do it again" and "Reelin' in the years" and the first track I ever heard from the band, "Dirty work".  Jimmy Page, guitarist for Led Zeppelin has been quoted stating that the guitar solo in "Reelin' in the years" is his favorite of all time.  The album was picked number 238 of the greatest albums of all time by Rolling Stone, and peaked at number 17 on the Billboard charts.

Recommendations

If you are even the slightest fan of the 1970's then this is a must have.  This album has some great material and should be in every music library.

If you plan on purchasing Can't buy a thrill

There is only one version to get your hands on, and that is the 1998 remastered version.  The sound quality is fantastic, and it includes original liner notes in addition to newer ones.  I always see this available in your record store, but if you're unable to get out, you can order it at Cdnow.com.

If you don't plan on purchasing Can't buy a thrill but want to hear some tracks from it

It's hard for me to believe that this album would get passed up.  The only time you should walk pass it in the record store is if you already own it.  But if you are deciding to do so, I recommend that you check out the first six tracks from the album, but the entire album is classic, even the last track too.  You can preview and purchase these at Itunes or Napster. For more suggestions, you can check out my ideal compilation at my Steely Dan Home Page.
